How to Automate X (Twitter), Reddit, Medium, and Quora from Remote AI Agents (MCP & OpenClaw) Without API Paywalls

X charges $200+/mo for write API tiers, Medium deprecated public API tokens, and Cloudflare blocks datacenter IPs on Quora and Reddit. Here is how Reeling's Chrome Companion bridge lets remote MCP and REST agents publish through your real browser session.

By Reeling product team. Examples describe the documented implementation; no live publishing test is implied.

Why traditional cloud APIs fail on X, Medium, Quora, and Reddit

Developers building autonomous content agents (using OpenClaw on a Hetzner VPS, Claude Desktop, or Cursor) quickly run into four walls when trying to publish text, threads, and articles:

• X (Twitter) locked programmatic write access behind paid developer tiers starting at $200/month. • Medium deprecated issuing new public integration tokens. • Quora has never offered a public write API for answers or shares. • Cloudflare Turnstile and bot management aggressively block headless browsers and requests originating from datacenter IPs (Hetzner, AWS, DigitalOcean) on Quora, Medium, and Reddit.

To solve this without fragile headless-browser proxies or $200/mo API fees, Reeling pairs its cloud REST API & MCP server with the Reeling Companion Chrome Extension.

How the Hybrid Cloud + Chrome Companion Bridge works

When you install Reeling Companion in Google Chrome on your computer and stay logged into X, Medium, Quora, and Reddit, the extension maintains a lightweight background heartbeat with your Reeling account.

1. Your remote AI agent (for example, an OpenClaw instance running on a Hetzner VPS) calls reeling_publish_post via MCP or POST /api/v1/publish using your X-API-Key. 2. Reeling validates the payload, runs the Pre-Publish Spam & Shadowban Shield for Reddit, Quora, and Medium, and places the job into your encrypted Companion Queue (upload_status: "queued_for_companion"). 3. Within ~3 seconds, your Chrome browser's Reeling Companion picks up the queued job, executes the publication directly inside your genuine, logged-in browser session on x.com, medium.com, quora.com, or reddit.com, and reports the live published URL back to the Reeling backend. 4. The API/MCP call resolves synchronously with the live post URL (published: true, url: "https://x.com/...").

Step-by-step setup for Chrome and remote MCP agents

Setting up the bridge takes less than two minutes:

1. Log into your X (Twitter), Medium, Quora, and Reddit accounts in Google Chrome. 2. Open chrome://extensions, enable Developer mode, click Load unpacked, and select the reeling-companion extension directory. 3. Click the Reeling Companion icon in your Chrome toolbar to verify that Browser Sessions show "Logged in" for X, Medium, Quora, and Reddit. 4. In Reeling (/connect), connect your X, Medium, Quora, and Reddit handles in Companion mode. 5. Configure reeling-mcp in your AI agent (Claude Desktop, Cursor, or OpenClaw) with your REELING_API_KEY.
